Opener Liton Das produced a batting masterclass on his way to a maiden T20 hundred and built an epic 241-run opening stand with another centurion Tanzid Tamim to end Dhaka Capitals' six-match winless streak as they thrashed Durbar Rajshahi by 149 runs in the Bangladesh Premier League in Sylhet on Sunday.

Liton, who was axed from Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad hours earlier, responded strongly as he smashed an unbeaten 55-ball 125 laced with 10 fours and nine sixes, while Tanzid struck a 64-ball 108, featuring six fours and eight sixes, to propel Dhaka to a colossal 254-1.

It was the highest team total in BPL history, surpassing Rangpur Riders' 239-4 against Chittagong Vikings in Chattogram in 2019.

Liton, who was playing his 227th T20, reached his century in 44 balls -- the fastest by a Bangladesh player in the BPL. However, his knock is the second-fastest by a Bangladesh player in recognised T20s after Parvez Hossain Emon's 42-ball hundred for Fortune Barishal against Minister Rajshahi in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup in Mirpur in 2020.

Both Liton and Tamim showed similar aggression from the beginning of their innings but it was Liton who reached the 100-run mark first when he hit pacer Shofiul Islam for a four through long-off in the 16th over.

On the other hand, Tanzid reached his ton in the last over also bowled by Shafiul as the left-handed batter smashed it square for a boundary. Tanzid became the only second Bangladesh batter, after Tamim Iqbal, to score two hundreds in BPL history.

Tanzid's innings finally came to an end in the third ball of the final over, also ending a marathon 241-run partnership – the highest for any wicket in BPL history – but the onslaught continued in the remaining balls that helped Dhaka become the first team in the BPL to cross the 250-run mark.

Rajshahi had no answer in the run chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Ryan Burl hit an unbeaten 32-ball 47-run knock but no other batters could make any notable contributions to make a contest in the fixture.

Rajshahi were eventually dismissed for 105 runs in 15.2 overs, conceding the biggest defeat in BPL history in terms of the margin of runs. It was also their fourth defeat in six matches in this year's BPL.

For Dhaka, four out of their five bowlers Abu Jayed, Mukidul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain and Farmanullah Safi took two wickets each, while Mustafizur Raman claimed one wicket.
