Theatre group Padatik to celebrate 47th anniversary with ‘Prerona’
Renowned theatre troupe Padatik Natya Sangsad-Bangladesh is set to celebrate its 47th anniversary. Since its inception in 1978, Padatik has made significant contributions to Bangladesh's social and cultural movements through its participation in various branches of the arts.
One of the world's pressing issues, "autism," is a challenge that Bangladesh has addressed admirably, becoming a global role model. To raise awareness about autism and to integrate affected children and individuals into mainstream society, Padatik has been staging the play "Prerona" nationwide.
Written and directed by Sabil Reza Chowdhury, the play is not only an artistic endeavour but also a social campaign, featuring performances by children with special needs from SWID Bangladesh.
Padatik will notably commemorate its 47th anniversary and host the 19th performance of "Prerona" at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy tomorrow at 6:30pm.
"Prerona" aims not only to create public awareness but also to support individuals with special needs. The play invites everyone to witness and reflect on its message. Padatik firmly believes that a change in society's perspective towards these special children and individuals can transform their monochromatic lives into vibrant ones. Collective efforts are vital for fostering social awakening.
The play's narrative captures humanity's global struggle against an invisible enemy and highlights how autism is another dark shadow leaving its mark on mankind. Despite advancements in power, wealth, and knowledge, no nation, however strong or developed, has escaped its grasp.
Autism affects many around us—children and adults alike—yet societal norms often compel families to hide this reality. If, instead, society extended hands of compassion and support, these individuals could lead fulfilling and normal lives.
Unfortunately, such support is not yet widespread, and many continue to conceal these challenges as though they were shameful secrets. Parental love, care, and collective societal efforts can provide the magical solution to this issue. Integrating children and individuals with autism into the mainstream and recognising their rights require a shift in societal attitudes.
Padatik Natya Sangsad-Bangladesh presents "Prerona", its 33rd production, as part of its commitment to raising awareness and creating a movement for change.
The play features Samia Chowdhury Joyee, Sadia Baydum Maknun, Mamun Abdullah, Dolly Akhter, Sabil Reza Chowdhury, Iqbal Noor, Talukdar Moniruzzaman Milton, Kamal Hossain, and others. Selim Shamsul Huda Chowdhury serves as the production director and set designer, while Professor Abdus Selim is the production adviser.
