Lionel Messi has reportedly shared his plans to settle in Barcelona once his contract with Inter Miami ends, sparking excitement among fans eager to see him return to the city where he became a legendary figure.

According to Argentine journalist Yanina Latorre -- also Messi's family friend -- Messi revealed that while he's happy in Miami, he intends to live in Barcelona after his Major League Soccer (MLS) stint.

Speaking to La Nacion, Latorre said: "Messi told me that when he finishes his career in Inter Miami, he will return to live in Barcelona. I said to him, 'Aren't you going to stay in Miami?' He said, 'No, no, my place is there [in Barcelona].'"

Messi, who has led Inter Miami to Leagues Cup and Supporters' Shield success since joining in 2023, has just one year remaining on his contract. He recently kicked off the year with a goal in a pre-season victory over Club América during their 'Americas Tour'.

Despite Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas expressing hopes of Messi staying until 2026 to debut their new stadium, it appears the 37-year-old is focused on life in Europe after his time in USA.

Earlier speculation linked Messi with a potential playing stint in Argentina or a Barcelona comeback, but living in the Catalan city now seems to be his long-term plan.

For now, the Argentine is focused on Inter Miami's upcoming season and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2026.
