OpenAI has recently unveiled ChatGPT Gov, a version of its AI-powered chatbot platform tailored for U.S. government agencies. The launch comes as AI increasingly becomes a focal point of global competition, with DeepSeek making notable advancements in the field.

ChatGPT Gov is designed to offer public sector agencies many of the functionalities available in OpenAI's corporate-oriented ChatGPT Enterprise. The platform allows agencies to deploy specific OpenAI models on Microsoft Azure's commercial or government cloud infrastructures.

In a recent blog post by OpenAI, the company states, "Self-hosting ChatGPT Gov enables agencies to more easily manage their own security, privacy, and compliance requirements, such as stringent cybersecurity frameworks (IL5, CJIS, ITAR, FedRAMP High). Additionally, we believe this infrastructure will expedite internal authorization of OpenAI's tools for the handling of non-public sensitive data."

According to OpenAI, since 2024, ChatGPT has been used by over 90,000 users across more than 3,500 federal, state, and local government agencies in the United States. Collectively, these users have exchanged over 18 million messages on the platform to assist with their daily operations.
