Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Durbar Rajshahi's owner Md Shafiq Rahman has promised to complete the payment of all their players, support staff and also clear other related dues by February 10, said a media release from the ministry of youth and sports on Monday.

According to the media release, the Rajshahi owner earlier had a discussion with sports adviser Asif Mahmud where he assured him of completing 50 percent payment by February 2.

But after he failed to honour his commitment and rumours started swirling around that the Rajshahi owner may flee the scene, the government stepped in as Shafiq got picked up and interrogated by the law enforcement agencies in the early hours of Monday.

"He [Shafiq] accepted his fault and promised to clear all dues of the team in three instalments of 25 percent each on February 3, 7 and 10. He also assured that alongside the players, everyone involved with the team would also receive their payments in each instalment. Otherwise, whatever necessary legal actions will be taken against him," the media release read.

Durbar Rajshahi, a new addition in the 11th edition of the BPL, have continuously made headlines this season due to the non-payment issue, damaging the reputation of the league globally.

Their overseas players have reportedly been stranded in their hotel in Dhaka due to not receiving their payments and daily allowances while reports of them not clearing the dues of the hotel and even the team bus are making rounds on social media.

On the field, Rajshahi narrowly missed out on a place in the top four, finishing fifth in the points-table after the league phase.
