Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has permanently expelled eight students due to their affiliation with the former ruling party's student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). In addition, another 52 students have been expelled temporarily for different terms and warned. 

The decision was confirmed on February 4, 2025 by the BUET Director of Student Welfare Department Prof. Dr AKM Masud. It was made after investigating the complaints filed by the students, which revealed that the accused violated on-campus rules.     

Last year in March, Imtiaz Rabbi, a central BCL member, organised a demonstration in BUET's campus. Following the demonstration, general students protested against the gathering and demanded that Imtiaz Rabbi be expelled and have his hall seat cancelled. They also demanded that those involved with him be identified, expelled, and have their hall seats cancelled. SM Anas Ferdous, Mohammad Hasin Arman Nihal, Aniruddha Majumder, Zahirul Islam Imon, and Sayem Mahmud Sajeedin Rifat among others were a part of the BCL demonstrations.
