Rab-8 has arrested the prime suspect, Md Hossain Sardar (60), along with another accused in connection with the brutal killing of three individuals inside a mosque in Madaripur.

Hossain Sardar, son of late Asmat Ali Howlader from Khwajpur, was the uncle of the victims.

At a press briefing today, Rab-8 Commanding Officer Lt Col Nistar Ahmed stated that on March 8, around 49 named and 80-90 unidentified attackers, armed with local weapons, stormed the house of victim Saiful Sardar.

As he and his two brothers sought refuge in the local mosque, the assailants followed them inside and hacked them to death. Several others were injured, while multiple houses were torched and looted.

Saiful (33) and his brother Ataur Sardar (35) died at the hospital, while their cousin Palash Sardar (18) later succumbed to his injuries in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A murder case was filed on March 14, at Madaripur Police Station, but the accused went into hiding. Acting on intelligence, Rab-8, with support from Rab-4, arrested Hossain Sardar from a mosque in Ashulia, Dhaka, and later apprehended his associate Suman Sardar (33) from Shariatpur.

Lt Col Nistar Ahmed stated that both groups were involved in Awami League politics, and the murders stemmed from a dispute over the sand trade.
