Speaking at an "Officers' Address" held at Dhaka Cantonment yesterday, the army chief stated that the nation would always remember the responsibility and dedication displayed by the armed forces.

Senior army officials from outside Dhaka also joined the session online, sources in the closed-door meeting said.

A mid-rank officer, requesting anonymity, said, "This is a regular meeting held monthly. The chief has asked us to perform our duties with honesty and utmost professionalism. The chief also advised to perform duty with patience."

According to meeting sources, General Waker discussed various issues, including law and order, propaganda, rumours, and provocative statements.

During the 40-minute address, he thanked all officers for their sacrifices and advised them to exercise patience while carrying out their duties. He also cautioned against reacting to provocation, emphasising that no action should be taken that plays into the hands of instigators.

Reaffirming the army's professionalism, the chief urged personnel not to be misled by misinformation and to handle situations with patience, as the army's top priority is the nation and its people.

He reiterated that law and order must be maintained at all costs and that any deterioration should be handled firmly.

The army chief also shared that the UN secretary-general had praised Bangladesh's role in peacekeeping missions and acknowledged the army's contributions since August 5.

Additionally, General Waker expressed gratitude to Ramu Cantonment for assisting in organising an Iftar for the Rohingya community in Cox's Bazar. He also mentioned the army's continued support for students injured during the July uprising.

Emphasising unity within the army, he expressed satisfaction with the solidarity among its ranks and urged everyone not to be influenced by provocations.
