Charge pressed against Rana Plaza owner
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today finally pressed charges against Sohel Rana in a case filed for violating building code in constructing Rana Plaza, which collapsed last year killing 1,135 workers.
The ACC filed the case on June 15 with Savar Police Station against 17 people excluding Rana.
Yesterday, the anti-watch dog included Sohel’s name in the case as they found evidence of his involvement in violating the building code.
SM Mofidul Islam, deputy director of the ACC and also the investing officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka this afternoon.
After pressing the charges, the IO prayed to the court to issue arrest warrant against 12 fugitives accused in the case.
The court is likely to hear the petition tomorrow.
Sohel Rana and five other accused in the case, who were earlier shown arrested in the case, are now in jail.
Savar municipal mayor and Rana's parents are among the accused.
