Police today arrested the driver of a passenger bus involved in a fatal crash with an ambulance on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway that left five people dead in Munshiganj on May 8.

The driver, Faisal, 45, from Charfassion in Bhola, was arrested this morning from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) area and is being brought to Munshiganj, police said in the afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, Abdul Kader Jelani, confirmed the arrest.

"A case was filed with Sirajdikhan Police Station under sections 98/99/105 of the Road Transport Act 2018 following the accident. Faisal is the prime accused in the case," said the OC.

Notably, two other accused -- the bus supervisor, Kalyan Biswas, 23, and the driver's assistant, Md Saiful Islam Shanto, 26 -- were arrested on the day of the incident.

On May 8, five people, including the ambulance driver, were killed when a Golden Line Paribahan passenger bus collided with a stationary ambulance on the expressway at Nimtala in Sirajdikhan.

The deceased were all from the same family and were travelling to Dhaka from Madaripur for treatment of a pregnant woman.
