Rakib stars in Kings’ 7-2 thumping of Fakirerpool

Rakib Hossain scored four goals to inspire Bashundhara Kings to a resounding 7-2 victory over Fakirerpool Young Men's Club in their Bangladesh Premier League fixture at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur yesterday.

Rakib found the net in the 22nd, 68th, 77th and 88th minutes, while Asror Gafurov, Faisal Ahmed Fahim and Rafiqul Islam added one goal each for the five-time champions. Santo Todu and Titas Das scored for Fakirerpool to reduce the margin.

In Cumilla, the match between Mohammedan SC and Rahmatganj SC at the District Stadium was abandoned due to inclement weather after 18 minutes of play, with Mohammedan leading 2-1. The match will resume tomorrow from where it was stopped.

Meanwhile, Brothers Union secured a commanding 5-0 win over Dhaka Wanderers Club in Munshiganj. Gambian duo Zakaria Darboe and Assan Njie netted two goals each, while Nigerian striker Mfon Sunday Udoh scored the other.

With their eighth win in 16 matches, Bashundhara Kings moved to second position with 28 points, level with Abahani who have played a game fewer. 

Brothers Union climbed to fourth with 26 points after their seventh win of the campaign. Fakirerpool and Wanderers Club remained in eighth and ninth positions with 16 and 10 points respectively.
