1,000 but yet a loss for de Villiers
The rare record of making a thousand runs in the forty year history World Cups could not have tasted sweet for AB de Villiers today for South Africa's loss to Pakistan.
Only 16 batsmen in the past have scored thousand runs in the ace cricketing tournaments including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, and Javed Miandad.
However, his innings of 77 runs at Auckland in the 29th match of World Cup 2015 could come to no avail as he faced a 29-run defeat against Pakistan in that match.
He was at his destructive best as his innings came from only 58 balls, and featured seven fours and five towering sixes.
Besides becoming a member of the 1000-run club, he overtook his teammate Hashim Amla as the leading scorer in the World Cup 2015.
