BNP-blessed mayoral hopeful M Manjur Alam, who will start his field-level campaign tomorrow, met party grassroots leaders and new female voters at his residence yesterday, while two top BNP leaders continued seeking votes for him from the general people.

Speaking at a separate campaign rallies, Khasru said Manju in his tenure did a lot of development work which the city had not experienced in the last 15 years.

Khasru told journalists that a level-playing field for the election was yet to be created, as many BNP leaders and activists were in jail.

"Our leaders and activists are being harassed with false cases or arrests every now and then by branding them as criminals or militants so as to prevent them from poll activities," he said.

Khasru also questioned the Election Commission's role, for "not taking" action against ministers and lawmakers who are "joining" campaigns.
