Capital punishment to housewife Sonia's killer demanded
A human chain was formed near Bangla School intersection in the town yesterday, demanding capital punishment to the killer of housewife Sonia.
Organised by Bhola Nagorik Committee, several hundred people, including students and teachers of different educational institutions, political leaders and cultural activists, joined the hour-long programme that began at 10:00am.
The participants demanded capital punishment to Sonia's husband Md Faruk, who killed her at a flat in the capital's Mirpur area on the night of November 19, 2014.
Sonia's father Mohiuddin Chowdhury also joined the human chain programme.
According to him, Sonia married Faruk, son of Kamal Mia of Dularhat village under Charfashion upazila of Bhola in 2004.
Sonia, mother of two children, was beaten up by Faruk at flat No 673/2 of Hazi Manjil in Mirpur-10 as she protested against her husband's extra-marital affair.
Faruk and his brother Prince took critically injured Sonia to a Mirpur Hospital at midnight. As doctors declared her dead, Faruk and his brother fled the hospital, leaving the body there.
A case was filed with the police station concerned the following day. Police arrested Faruk, but he was later released on bail.
At the human chain, Sonia's father Mohiuddin alleged that Faruk has been putting pressure on him to withdraw the case.
