“Uthan Natya Utshab” at JKKNIU
A three-day Uthan Natya Utshab, the first of its kind in the country was organised recently by artistes of Theatre and Performing Arts Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU).
At the opening ceremony, two plays, “Data Horishchandrer Pala” and “Beillar Nachari” were staged at the courtyard of Nuru Member of village Namapara in Trishal.
Other plays, “Tentul Gaach”, “Bishad Sindhu”, “Buro Shaliker Ghare Ro”, and “Mohabidya”, were staged on the second and concluding day at the courtyards of Pappu Miah and Jamal Uddin of the locality.
At the inaugural ceremony, Syed Mamun Reza, head of Theatre and Performing Arts Department said, “The festival is aimed to bring plays that incorporate century old traditions to rural people so that they can learn about our old traditions and cultural heritage.”
“As institutional education, the theatre festival with a large body of folk elements will enrich modern theatre and the century-old history of theatre as well,” said Mamun Reza.
The festival was received very well among rural people as the university students performed spontaneously at the homesteads of the rural people, added Mamun Reza.
Eminent theatre personality Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu, Saimon Zakaria, Palakar Abdul Malek and Lalon researcher Saleh Sarker were present at the opening ceremony.
