Super Chef Episode 6: The First Hurdle

Over three thousand people tried but now only 16 remains. Of these 16, only three will fight till the end and only one will emerge on top as Bangladesh's Super Chef, winner of the largest and most prestigious culinary competition in the country. However, such a prize can never come easy and nothing guarantees success at this level. Only through sheer will power, perseverance and unshakable motivation can one reach the pinnacle of success. There will be hurdles to cross and the biggest of them will be starting to appear from now. If you thought the past challenges were hard, you are in for a rude awakening.

As ShahedaYesmin so eloquently put it, only those who believe they can conquer the impossible can win the crown. And to win the crown, one must dig down really deep and produce something exceptional. They must conjure up a miracle of sorts because that is exactly what their opponents will be planning to do. The final 16 know that tonight, two will have to go home and only two will be sent to safety. The list will continue to trim as the days progress and if you fall at the first hurdle, then there will be no scope for picking yourself back up.

So, what do the judges' have in store tonight? Tonight, the 'magic box' will be making its first appearance. The box will contain some magical ingredients as expected of any “jadoorbaksho” that the participants must use to produce a fitting enough dish for the judges. And they will have only 45 minutes to check the ingredients, plan their dish and execute it to perfection. Nothing short of excellence will suffice.

Only two out of sixteen will be sent to the safe zone. The rest 14 will have to face the fight for survival and from them two will be sent home. This will be the battle to survive indeed, aptly called “TikeyThakarLorai” and only those who can handle the immense pressure will endure. With no breaks in between the two rounds, the judges will carefully see who begins to crack and who manages to hold their own. And to think this is only just the beginning.

The pressure will be on those who had to make it here by virtue of the waiting list. They are the ones to watch out for most carefully. Also, look out for those who make it to the safe zone first because those that do will obviously have some element of the Super Chef quality. Perhaps your top two will be in the safe zone right from the beginning.

For now though, don't hedge your bets on anyone. When the 16 best chefs of the country go head to head, you'd have to be less than a wise man to put all your eggs in one basket. Who will stand and who will fall first? Tune in tonight at 9pm sharp on ntv to find out!
