Morning sees gridlock in Dhaka
Today’s morning rush hour traffic seemed more packed than usual, as vehicles were at a standstill at different parts of Dhaka.
Traffic congestion is a part of Dhaka life but today the traffic surpassed normalcy. The main roads such as Kazi Nazrul Islam, Hatirjheel, Panthapath intersection and Mohgbazar saw bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The sweltering heat (32 degrees) and heavy traffic worked hand-in-hand to make the morning into mourning.
Bijoy Sarani was completely blocked for over an hour as the prime minister was on her way to office, said a stranded rickshaw passenger, late for his office at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue.
The vehicles were moving slowly on the street that stretches to Mirpur of Dhaka.
“It usually takes me 40-50 minutes to reach my office at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue from Shahjahanpur, but today it took an hour and twenty minutes,” said another while getting off the rickshaw at Panthapath intersection to walk the rest of the way.
The reason behind this excessive gridlock situation could not be known.
