17 fortune seekers rescued from Cox's Bazar
Border Guard Bangladesh early today rescued 17 people from Shah Porir Dip in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar while being trafficked to Malaysia illegally.
They rescued hailed from Narsingdi, Chittagong, Narayanganj and Habiganj, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent quoting BGB officials.
A patrol team of BGB-42 battalion conducted a drive at the area around 4:00am and rescued the people, said Maj Abu Russel Siddique, additional director of the BGB unit.
He said the fortune-seekers were in the sea for 50 days. "Brokers arranged their sea voyage. Some unidentified people abandoned them Shah Porir Dwip at around 3:00am today."
On information, the BGB team rushed to the spot and rescued them.
They were handed over to Teknaf Police Station. Later, they were produced before the senior judicial magistrate court of Cox’s Bazar.
The rescued were, Billal Hossain, Mohammad Shafiq, Kazi Illias, Kawsar Mia, Md Rakib, Asad Mia, Md Yousuf, Md Kiron Mubin, Sohel Mia, Md Alam, Md Sahabuddin, Abu Bakkar, Shahjahan Ali, Younus Ali, Manik Modak, Nabi Hossain and Lokman Ali.
The incident comes in view of the worldwide alarm over human trafficking and a crackdown regarding the issue.
