Emma Dean brings the kitchen to life
Today, dreams will be broken. A tense environment will prevail throughout the competition. After last week's elimination, only four participants remain and at the end there will be only three left. Whoever goes home now, knows that he missed the Top 3 spot, and an automatic 2 lakh BDT by just a single round. Of course, the heartbreak will not be easy to handle and words of consolation will not be of much help. But that is the nature of this competition; only the best will remain.
Tonight, Emma Dean, winner of season 5 of MasterChef Australia and one of the most popular faces of all the winners of the show, will finally take over the kitchen. Emma Dean already had a look at all the challengers and what to expect from them in the last episode. There, she learned more about the participants, gave them some suggestions and discussed a few aspects of cooking with them. Today, she will present a dish of her own which the participants will have to recreate.
Like Gerard Wallace before her, Emma Dean will first prepare the dish in front of the participants, so they can understand the overall process. Then, the participants will ask all their questions and finally go about to recreate the dish. The best dish will stay while the dish that is below par will result in elimination.
Emma Dean will be preparing Cold Smoked King Fish Canape. However, the process will not be easy. Emma will be using wood shavings and tea from Sylhet to smoke the fish. How the fish is skinned and de-boned will also have to be done skilfully as a poor job will result in a poor final dish.
Umme Kulsum, Jebunessa, Nadim and Sakib will all have to be on their best. So far, Umme Kulsum has proven herself to be a quick learner. It is expected that she may not face much difficulty in this round. The same can be said of Nadim Sarker, who too picks up new culinary techniques with ease. Jebunessa, on the other hand, has not excelled in international cuisine; however she is a natural chef who goes by taste and innovation. Sakib may be the odd one out but he too has pulled aces from his sleeves when the occasion required. This round may be no different. Thus, right now, the participants seem to be almost evenly matched and determining a winner seems more difficult than one would imagine.
The two most necessary things to win this round have to be the ability to remain calm, adapt to circumstances and maintain perfect timing. The participants will be tasked with preparing mayonnaise from scratch and they will also have to prepare pastry puffs. The dish will require pure concentration. Emma Dean has set up quite a tricky slope for the participants to negotiate. The question is which of them will be up for the task and which of them will go home.
