HC asks govt to admit Fakhrul to BSMMU
The High Court today asked the prison authorities to admit BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University immediately for his treatment.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order in response to a writ petition filed by Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum.
Rahat Ara submitted the petition yesterday, saying that her husband has been suffering from various diseases including diabetes and heart complications.
She sought court direction upon the prison authorities for admitting Fakhrul to BSMMU or Birdem hospital for proper treatment.
Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, a counsel for Fakhrul, told The Daily Star that Fakhrul was detained from the Press Club on January 5 and he was shown arrested in seven vandalism and arson cases.
Among the cases, Fakhrul has secured bail in one. He is now at Kashimpur Jail-2 in Gazipur, he added.
