Police arrested a human trafficker at Khoyran village in Sujanagar upazila on Saturday night.

The accused is Baser Mallik, 55, said Md Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station, adding that he was arrested on charge of trafficking five youths of the area to Malaysia about three months ago.  

The victims are Milon Hossain, Babu Ali, Nazmul Hossain, Haque Mallik and Alhaz Hossain. Aged between 30 and 35 years, they hail from Khoyran and Bhaina villages.

The five endured inhuman physical and mental torture in a boat for around two months at sea.

They were repatriated from Myanmar on June 8 and then returned to their village homes on Thursday.

During primary interrogation, Baser confessed to trafficking the youths and gave information about some traffickers of Chittagong and Teknaf areas, said the OC.
