Captain Nawshad’s body likely to reach Dhaka Thursday morning
The body of Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot Captain Nawshad Ataul Qaiyum, who passed away in a Nagpur hospital yesterday, is likely to reach Dhaka on Thursday morning.
Sources in the Bangladesh high commission in New Delhi said efforts are underway to complete all official formalities to take the body to Bangladesh and if they are done, it would be flown to Dhaka on September 2.
The high commission has sent an official to Nagpur to facilitate the process. The body, now kept in the mortuary in Kingsway Hospital, will be handed over to Bangladesh authorities after the autopsy, the sources added.
The sources said Biman are planning to re-route one of its Dhaka-bound flights from Doha to stop in Nagpur to take the body of Captain Nawshad and attempts are on to get landing permission for the Biman flight at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur.
The Dhaka-Doha flight is scheduled to reach Nagpur at 5:00am local time on Thursday and it may reach Dhaka around 9:30am local time.
Two sisters of the deceased pilot who are now in Nagpur will accompany the body to Dhaka.
The Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 022 from Muscat had made an emergency landing in Nagpur with 124 passengers on board on Friday morning after Captain Nawshad suffered a heart attack mid-flight.
