Adopt new tech, improve service: PM tells Biman
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today released a special commemorative postage stamp, an opening day cover and a data card on the occasion of golden jubilee of the state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The premier unveiled the commemorative postage stamp of taka 10, the opening day cover of taka 10 and the data card of taka 5 in a ceremony at her official residence Gono Bhaban this morning.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid emphasis on improving service quality of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, asking the national flag carrier to put concentration on learning and adopting new technologies to cut dependency on others.
The prime minister said Biman's ground handling management was not up to the mark in the past, but the government is working to establish a separate unit to develop it as a more standard section.
In this connection, Sheikh Hasina said, "You (Biman authority) have to focus on ground handling so that it can be done with honesty and efficiency."
She added that the unit (ground handling) is needed to be formed as soon as possible so necessary skilled manpower is recruited for an improved passengers' service.
A special canceller was used on the occasion.
The prime minister also received a souvenir of Biman on its golden jubilee at the function.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman and Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain, among others, were present.
The stamp, first-day cover and data card will be sold from Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO and will also be available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country later.
