One killed, five injured in clash over UP election in Madaripur
A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairmen candidates of Kadirpur union under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur.
The deceased was identified as Elias Dhali, 45, of the upazila.
He died at home as he left the hospital fearing further attack.
Police and locals said at least six persons were injured when supporters of two chairmen candidates -- Jahangir Bepari and Moiya Talukdar -- locked in clashes with locally-made weapons on Wednesday night, following an altercation between two supporters.
The injured were taken to Shibchar Upazila Health complex immediately. As both candidates visited the injured, their supporters clashed again in front of the hospital, creating fear and panic among the injured, they said.
Several of the injured left the hospital fearing further attacks, and Elias went to his father-in-law's house at Shakerpur village in the upazila where he died around 5:00am today.
Of the injured, Rubel, who was stated to be in critical state, was shifted to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.
Miraj Hossain, officer in-charge of Shibchar Police Station said, on information police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The body was sent to Madaripur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed against eight persons with Shibchar Police Station and police so far arrested four in this regard.
