Falu on 5-day remand in arson case

A Dhaka court today placed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Mosaddak Ali Falu on a five-day remand in a case filed for torching a bus in Khilgaon area of Dhaka on January 30.

Earlier in the day, Falu was shown arrested in the case though his name was not mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR), our court correspondent reports.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Hasibul Haque passed the order after Khilgaon police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

According to the case statement, Falu was made accused in the case for masterminding and instigating the arson attack on Biswa road near Khilgaon flyover on January 30.

He, a former lawmaker, also financed and ordered to carry out the attack that left four passengers burnt, the plaintiff said.

Nazrul Islam, owner of the torched bus, filed the case with Khilgaon Police Station on January 30.

Detectives yesterday picked up Falu from in front of the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

Chairman of private television channel ntv, Falu went to visit Khaleda at 7:25pm yesterday. As soon as he came out of the office at 7:55pm and boarded his SUV, a DB official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police asked him to go with them.

A number of journalists, including a reporter of The Daily Star, were present there.

The officer, Detective Branch Assistant Commissioner Obaidur Rahman, got into Falu's car and asked a sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station to sit beside the driver's seat. A police car followed the SUV.
