Composer Ali Akbar Rupu no more
Renowned music composer Ali Akbar Rupu passed away at the age of 57 due to heart and kidney diseases.
He breathed his last around 12:45pm at the United Hospital in Dhaka, said his family sources.
The prominent composer had been suffering from cardiac and kidney complications for a long time, his daughter Faria Naz told Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Rupu was on kidney dialysis for the last seven months. He suffered stroke while he was on kidney dialysis on February 9, the daily reported quoting Faria.
He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter and a numerous numbers of fans to mourn his death.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan after Asr prayers and the second namaz-e-janaza will be held after Magrib prayers at Shruti Studio in Moghbazar area of the capital, the family sources said.
Later, he will be buried at Azimpur graveyard.
Rupu has a number of renditions under his belt which include “Ekdin Kannar rol uthbe amar barite” by Kumar Biswajit, “Jare ghor dila songsar dila” by the same artist.
Famous singer Andrew Kishor also voiced a number of popular songs composed by Rupu like “Padma patar pani noy”. Sabina Yasmin, Kanak Chanpa, Samina Chowdhury also performed on the composition of Rupu.
He also composed a number of tracks for popular TV magazine show ‘Ityadi’ over the last 25 years.
He started his musical career in 1982 with the band ‘Uccharon’ in which he played guitar and key-board. Later, he left the band and formed a band named ‘Winds’. But his illustrious musical career mostly encompasses as a lyricist and composer.
