ACC to enquire against Laxmipur MP for 'amassing Tk 1,400cr through human trafficking'
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said it will enquire into the allegations against lawmaker Quazi Shaheed Islam who supposedly amassed Tk 1,400 crore illegally through human trafficking to Kuwait and siphoned off the money to different countries.
ACC, in an order issued yesterday, has tasked its director general (special investigation) to carry out the enquiry, sources at the commission said today.
Quazi Shaheed, MP of Laxmipur-2, made headline in Kuwait's English-language daily Arab Times for human trafficking.
According to the report published in the daily on February 12, three Bangladeshis are running a human trafficking racket in Kuwait.
The report, which was citing Arabic-language daily Al-Qabas, said that one of the three is a "member in the Bangladeshi parliament".
The trio occupied "sensitive positions" in three major companies that brought more than 20,000 Bangladeshi workers into the Arab country in exchange of large sums of money believed to be more than Tk 1,391.6 crore, the report said.
