Poacher selling tiger skin for Tk 13 lakh arrested in Bagerhat

A poacher was arrested yesterday with a tiger skin from Rayenda Bazar of Sharankhola in Bagerhat.

The arrestee Gaus Fakir (45) was held during a joint operation by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and forest guards, said Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department.

The arrestee was taken to Bagerhat East Sundarbans Forest Department office from Rab-8 office in Barishal around noon today and a case was filed against him for killing a tiger.

"Based on a tip off, we learnt that Gaus was trying to sell a tiger skin. In disguise of a buyer, we contacted him to purchase the skin. After bargaining with Gaus, he agreed to sell it for Tk 13 lakh. He was arrested while taking money from us," Mohammad Belayet Hossain added.
