17-pioint ‘manifesto’ for BNP-backed candidates
A platform of professionals which is supporting the BNP-backed candidates in the upcoming Dhaka city elections has set a 17-point priority list.
Under the title of manifesto of Adorsho Dhaka Andolan for Dhaka north and south city corporation elections 2015, the pro-BNP-Jamaat platform placed different points of demand instead of making any pledge.
The points include city governance, city planning, road and transport system, education, health service, information technology, environment, housing, law and order, human rights, women rights, social security, industry and sports.
Shawkat Mahmud, member secretary of the Adorsho Dhaka Andolan, read out the eight-page “manifesto” at a press conference at the National Press Club this evening.
Though Shawkat claimed they have shown different ways out of the problems of the city dwellers no commitment was found in the “manifesto”.
Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, convener of the platform, said their candidates will work according to the manifesto if they are elected.
“The candidates will also come up with their own manifesto separately,” said Emajuddin, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University.
