200 BNP men held from Sylhet rally
Law enforcers detained over 200 BNP men including Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, an adviser to party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, from different points of the rally venue of Jatiya Oikyafront in Sylhet this evening.
“Over 200 leaders and activists of our party including Muktadir were picked up. The law enforcers also attempted to pick me up while I was coming out of the rally venue,” Abul Taher Shamim, president of Sylhet district unit of BNP, told The Daily Star.
While talking to our correspondent, Golam Kawsar Dastagir, assistant commissioner of Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet, said some people were picked up from different parts of the city for interrogation.
“We will be able to inform the further details of the detained people after 10:00 pm,” the police official said responding to a query.
For the first time, the Jatiya Oikyafront held its public rally in the city today to garner people’s support to its seven-point demand including holding of the next general election under a nonpartisan polls-time interim government and release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
