AL council now Oct 22-23

Bangladesh Awami League in 11th National Elections

The Awami League has set the new date for its 20th triennial council on October 22-23, instead of its earlier scheduled July 10-11.

The decision has been taken considering the monsoon rain and to ease travel of holidaymakers, who will return Dhaka after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif told The Daily Star.

The party’s central working committee, the highest decision-making body of the AL, today fixed the new date at its meeting at Gono Bhaban with Party president as well as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

With the new date, the ruling party has changed its council date for the third time.

The party's last council was held on December 29, 2012. The current committee expired on December 28 last year. In January, the AL decided to extend the tenure of the committee by six months.

Earlier on September 11 last year, the ALCWC decided to hold the council in December, but failed. Then on January 9, the party decided to hold it on March 28. However, it failed to hold council on that date. Later On March 20, AL decided to hold council on July 10-11.
