An Awami League leader filed a case while a BNP leader lodged a complaint blaming each other in connection with the attack during BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s election campaign at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka yesterday.
Jahirul Islam sued 100 unknown BNP men in a case filed with Tejgaon Police Station around 11:55pm yesterday saying that the BNP activists attack AL men at Karwan Bazar, said Ramzan Ali, a sub-inspector of the police station.
The plaintiff is the AL president of ward No. 26 in Dhaka, party sources said.
Meanwhile, barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, joint secretary general of BNP, along with three pro-BNP lawyers went to the station around 11:00am today and submitted a complaint.
In its complaint, BNP said that ruling party-backed armed goons carried out the attack on Khaleda’s motorcade in a bid to kill her and her party men.
Accepting the complaint, SI Ramzan Ali said they will take steps on discussion with the officer-in-charge, Mazharul Islam, as he was yet to reach the police station, the SI told the BNP leader.
Khaleda’s motorcade came under attack by pro-ruling AL activists during her election campaign at the capital's Karwan Bazar yesterday.
Around 150 activists of Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, Shramik League and Chhatra League showered the vehicles with brick chips and hit those with wooden sticks for around 15 minutes from 5:45pm.
Khaleda's bullet-proof car was damaged but she was unhurt.
Some 15 people, including her personal secretary, got injured. Four of them were admitted to United Hospital.
In the evening, the BNP-led 20-party alliance called a countrywide daylong hartal for tomorrow. Dhaka and Chittagong will remain out of the purview of hartal due to the city corporation elections to be held on April 28.
The opposition combine will also stage demonstrations across the country today.
