BNP chalks out countrywide protest programmes
BNP will organise agitation programmes across the country including Dhaka protesting the recent attacks on its party chief Khaleda Zia’s motorcade.
Protest rallies will be organised at all district-level headquarters tomorrow, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists at Nayapaltan in Dhaka this noon.
Similar protest programmes will be organised at all thana-level units of the party in Dhaka on Saturday, Fakhrul said at a press conference.
At least 45 people were injured and some 30 cars, including several media vehicles, were damaged as 40 to 50 youths with iron rods and sticks swooped on the convoy in Feni on Saturday.
BNP alleged that the attack was planned to stop Khaleda from providing humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar.
Nearly 15 journalists were assaulted even after they disclosed their professional identities.
Two empty buses went up in flames at Mohipal in the same district town just after the BNP chief's car crossed the area while returning to Dhaka.
The BNP and its archrival Awami League have since been pointing fingers at each other. However, Feni BNP leaders claimed to have identified some of the men who attacked Khaleda's motorcade that day.
