Minister’s son sent to jail over attack on Pabna journalists
A local Jubo League leader was sent to jail today in connection with a case filed for attacking journalists in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila on November 29.
Pabna Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order after Shirhan Sherif Tomal, also son of Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case, our local correspondent reports quoting Additional Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar.
Four journalists were beaten up allegedly by some Jubo League men, led by Tomal, Jubo League president of Ishwardi upazila unit, in the upazila on November 29.
The newsmen were gathering information about the preparation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit in the upazila.
A case was filed against Tomal and 30 others with Ishwardi Police Station on that day.
Eight suspected attackers so far were detained but key accused Tomal went into hiding after the incident.
