SC upholds stay on MP Rana's bail
The Supreme Court today upheld its earlier order that stayed a High Court verdict granting bail to Tangail's Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed killing case.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed “no order” on a petition filed by MP Rana seeking "modification" of the SC’s order that on May 8 stayed the HC order of bail.

In the petition, Rana also prayed to the apex court to grant him bail in the case, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star.
Ranna cannot get released from jail following the SC order, the AG said.
Following a bail petition filed by Rana, the HC on April 13 granted ad-interim bail to Rana and also issued a rule asking the government to explain why he should not be granted regular bail in this case.
Later, the government moved an appeal before the Appellate Division of the SC for staying the HC order.
The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader of Tangail, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed.
