BNP demands re-election in all unions
BNP today claimed the public boycotted the “farcical” union parishad elections and demanded a re-election in all those unions.
“There were widespread irregularities. People boycotted the polls. We demand re-election,” said Rizvi Ahmed, senior joint secretary general of BNP, at a press conference in Nayapaltan.
Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan echoed Rizvi at a separate programme and opined that it is meaningless for BNP to participate in the rest phases of UP polls.
The BNP senior leader made the observation at the National Council of Bangladesh Kolyan Party, a component in the BNP-led 20-party alliance at city’s Photo Journalists’ Association auditorium.
A total of 20 people were killed in UP polls violence during the first and second phase of polls, that was held in partisan manner for the very first time.
Elections to 621 unions are slated for April 23 in the third phase. A total of 743 unions will go to polls on May 7 in the fourth phase and around 1,400 more in two other phases till June.
