BNP finalises municipality mayoral aspirants

BNP has finalised the list of its mayoral aspirants in all 236 municipalities across the country to contest the elections scheduled to be held on December 30.

The party started distribution of attested copies of nomination papers to the candidates or representatives of the candidates around 12:00 noon, Emran Saleh Prince, assistant publicity secretary of BNP, told The Daily Star.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia approved the list last night, he added.

Election Commission yesterday said it would not defer the municipality polls. The decision was made despite BNP and Jatiya Party requested for deferral of the polls.

Later, BNP criticised the EC for not entertaining its demand for deferring the polls.
