EC must verify affidavit of candidates: Shujan

Bringing allegation that Election Commission does not verify the information provided by the candidates on their affidavits, Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) today said the information must be duly scrutinised.

The civil society platform today also expressed hope for a free and fair elections at all three city corporation elections.

Shujan held the press conference at Jatiya Press Club this morning to share the affidavits of candidates contesting in the upcoming city polls in Sylhet, Barishal and Rajshahi.

Information such as educational background, wealth statement, cases if filed against any candidate, and so on are provided in the affidavits.

Shujan also further asked the EC to negotiate with the government for assistance to conduct free and fair elections.

Meanwhile, in reply to a query, Shujan president Hafiz Uddin Khan said that he is still not seeing a level-playing field in the days leading up to the election.
