Fakhrul in jail for 4 months
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is in jail for nearly four months in numerous cases filed against him.
Mirza Fakhrul, accused in 73 criminal cases, is facing eight arrest warrants so far in different cases.
He was arrested on January 6, while his party leader Khaleda Zia was kept confined to her political office for the third day.
Detectives picked up Fakhrul when he came out of the Jatiya Press Club with pro-government journalists who were protesting against his stay there.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on April 22 upheld a High Court’s April 16 order that granted Fakhrul bail for six months in a case filed with Paltan Police Station for vandalising and torching a car in Dhaka.
However, Fakhrul could not be released from jail, since he has been shown arrested in seven other cases.
Fakhrul was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka today for his regular medical check-up from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur.
Fakhrul was arrested thrice previously.
