Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad today came down heavily on the government for killing people indiscriminately in the name of crackdown against illegal drug trade.

“We don’t know identities of those killed in the name of drive against illegal drug trade. The godfather of drugs is in parliament. Hang them after trial,” said the JP Chief at an iftar and discussion programme organised by the party’s central committee in Dhaka.

Ershad, also special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said people cannot be killed in that way without trial as every people has their right to get justice.

“There is no such instance in anywhere in the world. The world community will not accept it,” said the JP boss.

He also called upon the government to enact a law keeping provision of death penalty to eliminate illegal drug trading in the country.

Pointing to city’s horrific traffic jam, Ershad said,“We need to ensure decentralisation and to introduce provincial system to get rid of the situation.”

JP senior co-chair Raushan Ershad, co-chairman GM Quader, secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader and presidium member Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, among others, also spoke at the programme.
