Govt hindering Khaleda’s bail: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blamed that the government is adopting different strategies to hinder the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail.
“The government had made up design, filed the case in line with that and the judgment was predetermined,” he came up with the allegation while talking to reporters at the party’s Nayapaltan office today.
Fakhrul also claimed that the AL-led government is trying to keep Khaleda Zia aside from the next parliamentary election by prolonging her imprisonment.
Alleging that the government is dillydallying with the BNP Chief’s bail, Fakhrul said, “Khaleda Zia was supposed to get bail on that very day of the judgment and there is no reason for her not getting bail.”
Condemning the arrests of the party activists and leaders centering Khaleda Zia’s verdict, Fakhrul said some 5,000 BNP men have been arrested across the country so far.
He also warned the government that it will not be able to split BNP by continuing such repression.
On February 8, Special Judge's Court-5 of Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment after it had found her and five others guilty in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission had filed the case with Ramna Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans.
