Khaleda blames AL for attack on Fakhrul
Warning of “dire consequence”, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today blamed the ruling party for attacking her party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“It is nothing but outcome of the unhealthy politics and politics of vengeance of the ruling Awami League,” Khaleda, also a former prime minister, said in a statement.
An instance has been set by assaulting Fakhrul physically and the government has let loose its party men to launch the attack in a bid to erase democracy from the country,” Khaleda said.
“I don’t have words forceful enough to denounce the heinous, cowardly and shocking attack on BNP secretary general and other leaders,” she said in a tweet message soon after the attack.
She also said, “This is an attack on democracy, politics, human rights and indispensable tolerance. The consequences of the attack can’t be good at all.”
She said the government has failed to initiate appropriate measures to accelerate rehabilitation of the people who become victims in the worst landslide in the three hilly districts.
BNP to hold demo tomorrow
The BNP will stage demonstration across the country tomorrow protesting the attack on Fakhrul.
The party will stage demonstrations in district and thana headquarters, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP senior joint secretary general, announced at a press briefing in Comilla this afternoon.
He said, “This attack is an alarming sign for the democracy. The heinous attack was launched on the BNP leaders so that they cannot see the failure of the government in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.”
