Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Patiya Police Station, confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.
The deceased was Abdul Mabud, 45, brother of councillor candidate Abdul Mannan of ward 8, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting local sources.
Mabud was stabbed to death in a clash in front of South Govinderkhil Government Primary School polling centre around 1:00pm, local sources said.
During the incident some unruly people set fire at a shop beside the centre and later, on information, fire fighters brought the fire under control.
Meanwhile, family of a councillor candidate Abdul Khaleque in ward 1 claimed that Khaleque went missing since morning as he went to a mazar.
They said it might be a case of abduction by rival candidate.
OC Rezaul said they are trying to find Khaleque.
