Many aspirants come to RO offices in processions

Aspirants in many districts went to the returning officers’ offices in procession violating electoral code of conduct.

Aspirants cannot bring more than seven supporters with them when they submit nomination papers to the returning officers’ offices, according to the Election Commission’s instruction.

They also cannot hold any showdowns during or after the submission, the instructions include.

In Rajshahi, the returning officer’s office was giving continuous announcements to avoid any showdown or bring more than five supporters when the nomination seekers are going to the office to submit nomination papers.

But aspiring candidates of major political parties were being accompanied by hundred or more supporters while aspirants of smaller political parties were accompanied by 15 or more supporters, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

AL aspirant for Rajshahi-3 constituency, Ayeen Uddin, also incumbent AL lawmaker was accompanied by around 100 supporters, many of whom were on motorcycles, when he came to submit his nomination paper.

Meanwhile, BNP aspirant for Rajshahi-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Minu was also accompanied by over 50 supporters when he went to submit the nomination papers.

RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, Awami League aspirant and also the incumbent AL lawmaker in Brahmanbaria-3 constituency also went to submit his nomination paper at the office of the RO around 11:00am, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

More than fifty of his supporters entered the returning officer's office with him.
