BNP’s mayoral candidate files case over ‘result manipulation’ in CCC polls
Dr Shahadat Hossain, BNP-nominated mayoral candidate in the recent Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls, has filed a case with the Election Tribunal in Chattogram alleging that the result of the election held on January 27 was "manipulated" by the officials of the EC.
The case was filed with the court of First Joint Judge Khairul Amin, our Chattogram staff correspondent reported, quoting Dr Shahadat.
"The EC has given the printed copy of the result covering 20 booths out of 4,885 to my polling agents and for the rest, they provided hand-written result sheets which were manipulated," Shahdat, also convenor of Chattogram city unit of BNP, alleged in the case document.
"In those hand-written result sheets, they changed the figure of votes cast… they changed 5% votes to 22.5%," he claimed.
"Initially, when the result was declared, it was shown I got 0 vote in three centres but later, after three days, they said I got 0 votes in 28 polling centres which is not only unacceptable but also unbelievable," said Shahadat, adding, "I was shown to get 10 votes or less in 178 polling centres."
"Above all, a farce was staged in the name of polls and so we demand to cancel the result of the polls and want new polls to be held under a new and transparent EC," he said.
