Govt out to kill Khaleda in jail: BNP
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that the government is attempting to kill Khaleda Zia by illegally detaining her in jail after sentencing her in a “fabricated case”.
“The government knows its political existence will be in crisis if Khaleda Zia is freed that is why it is illegally detaining her in fabricated cases even after she secured bail in many cases,” the BNP leader claimed while addressing a press conference at its Nayapaltan central office today.
Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia’s family members met her at the old Central Jail on Thursday and they said that her left hand and foot have become numb and she is having difficulty moving.
“The government must ensure her proper treatment otherwise it will have to take responsibility if anything happens to her. It will be held accountable for violation of the constitution and human rights,” Fakhrul said demanding immediate release of Khaleda Zia.
“We will send a letter to the home minister today seeking proper treatment of Khaleda Zia,” he added.
According to the constitution and laws of the country no citizen can be tried if he or she is sick as it is inhumane and contrary to the constitution, Fakhrul said.
“The government is moving ahead with a blueprint to win the upcoming elections by keeping Khaleda Zia aside from elections and politics,” he said.
The BNP has been demanding for Khaleda’s treatment at United Hospitals Limited since the BNP chairperson’s imprisonment on February 8 this year.
“We have demanded for her treatment at any specialised hospital, it doesn’t mean that it has to be the United Hospitals only. We don’t want to take her to any government hospital and she also doesn’t want that as we don’t trust the government,” he added.
