Khaleda eligible for getting bail, BNP MP tells JS
BNP MP Rumeen Farhana (Reserved Seat-50) today in the parliament criticised the government’s role for not granting bail to its imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“Khaleda Zia is definitely eligible for getting bail on the ground of her age, health, social status and merit of the case. But she is being denied of the bail due to the government pressure,” Rumeen Farhana said.
Rumeen, the lone reserved seat BNP lawmaker, said that her party’s chairperson is now languishing in jail in a ‘false case’ while its acting chairman Tarique Rahman is being forced to live abroad under threat of the government.
“This is a great opportunity to come to the parliament as a politician. I am grateful for it. But honourable Speaker you know this parliament was constituted through a faulty election which draws criticism home and abroad. This is an illegal parliament,” she said in her two-minute speech.
At one stage, the ruling party lawmakers started hue and cry protesting the remarks while the Speaker asked the MPs to keep silent.
Later, Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan demanded to expunge her remarks over the legality of parliament and the December 30 national election.
Responding his demand, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury who was presiding over the sitting at the time, expunged these words.
