Khaleda’s release: BNP to announce month-long programme
BNP has decided to announce a month-long programme within four weeks to realise its demand for immediate release of party’s imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“We will go for a movement under democratic manner within four weeks to ensure release of our party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a press conference at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka this evening.
Earlier, national standing committee, the height policy-making body of BNP, held a meeting at the office to devise their next course of action to meet their demands.
As part of the programmes, demonstrations under a democratic way will be held at divisional level headquarters across the country and BNP’s central leaders will attend the programmes, Fakhrul said.
However, the BNP leader did not clear anything about when the movement will be kicked off.
Fakhrul also criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she, on June 17, informed the House that the person responsible for ‘pillow scam’ in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was a former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Citing detail identities of the person, Fakhrul said, “Prime minister’s claim was a blatant lie, unexpected and unacceptable.”
Fact is the person was not a BUET student rather he was a student of Khulna Engineering and Technology University and he did never belong to the Chhatra Dal politics, Fakhrul said.
“Such type of false claim of the prime minister in the parliament can never be acceptable,” Fakhrul said.
