BNP will take part in polls: Quader
There is no doubt that BNP will take part in the upcoming parliamentary election, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today.
Quader said this at a briefing at the party president’s political office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi this morning, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Asked why there is no excitement over the upcoming election in BNP while Awami League is moving ahead for the polls in a festive mood, Quader said, “I don’t know why there is no festive mood in the BNP camp over the polls. However, there is no doubt that BNP will join the polls. We are optimistic about it.”
Referring to BNP’s statement in the Jatiya Oikyafront’s rally in Rajshahi yesterday, he said that delivering inciting speech and announcing programmes to wage movement are clear violations to the electoral code of conduct.
No one can deliver such statement as BNP did yesterday following the announcement of the election schedule, he added.
“Equations of political polarisation are going on. We would seek more time,” Quader said while reacting to the Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed’s announcement yesterday that any political party will have to inform the EC in three days on whether they would join the election under any political alliance.
AL Joint Secretay General Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were also present at the briefing, among others.
