I will play my second innings now: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the biggest challenge for him now is bringing back discipline into the transport sector.
“I could have died but I have been given another chance. Hopefully I will play my second innings now. I have finished my first innings,” Quader told media as he joined work today after more than two months following his illness.
“Overcoming this challenge will be my main goal in this second innings,” he told journalists at Secretariat.
The minister also said that the condition of roads and highways before Eid holidays is better in comparison to the last few years.
He also announced that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 2nd Meghna and 2nd Gumti bridge on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on May 25.
The PM will also inaugurate more than one flyover and overpasses on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway on that same day (May 25), the minister said.
This will significantly reduce rush on both the highways, which usually experience the worst traffic during the Eid holiday rush.
Quader, also the AL general secretary, returned home from Singapore by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on May 15 afternoon.
He underwent a bypass surgery in Singapore Mount Elizabeth Hospital on March 20 and had been staying there to recover from his ailment.
On March 3, Quader was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital after suffering breathing complications.
Tests revealed three blockages in his coronary artery and later he was flown to Singapore for better treatment under the supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
